PE patients exhibit the immunological features of both pemphigus and lupus erythematosus (LE), i.e. granular immunoglobulin (Ig) and C3 deposition in the basement membrane zone (BMZ), intercellular IgG and C3 deposition in the epidermis and the presence of circulating antinuclear antibodies (ANA) (1, 2). This report describes a case of PE in which skin lesions were induced by UVB irradiation.

Pemphigus erythematosus and cutaneous epitheliotropic lymphoma in a Labrador Retriever dog
Background: Paraneoplastic pemphigus is an autoimmune blistering skin disease associated with concurrent neoplasia that is rarely observed in veterinary medicine. Case description: This case report presents a ten-year-old female Labrador Retriever dog with generalized seborrhea and alopecic, crusting and ulcerative lesions in the periocular and perioral regions...
متن کاملThe Protective Effects of Ultraviolet A1 Irradiation on Spontaneous Lupus Erythematosus-Like Skin Lesions in MRL/lpr Mice
We investigated the effects of ultraviolet A1 (UVA1) irradiation on spontaneous lupus erythematosus- (LE-) like skin lesions of MRL/lpr mice, using a disease prevention model. UVA1 irradiation significantly inhibited the development of LE-like skin lesions, without obvious changes of the disease including renal disease and serum antinuclear antibody levels. Besides the massive infiltration of m...
متن کاملPemphigus Foliaceus Associated with Psoriasis during the Course of Narrow-Band UVB Therapy: A Simple Coincidence?
Although psoriasis and bullous diseases are considered to be completely different disease entities, the literature has reported a few cases of psoriasis associated with bullous diseases, most of which are bullous pemphigoid. In limited cases, pemphigus foliaceus has also been reported in association with psoriasis. In most of them, pemphigus lesions usually developed on an untreated patient wit...
متن کاملThe IgG "lupus-band" deposition pattern of pemphigus erythematosus: association with the desmoglein 1 ectodomain as revealed by 3 cases.
BACKGROUND Pemphigus foliaceus is an autoimmune skin disease characterized by subcorneal blistering and IgG antibodies directed against desmoglein 1. In the skin, these antibodies deposit intraepidermally. On rare occasions,an additional “lupus band” of granular depositions of IgG and complement is seen along the epidermal basement membrane zone. This combined pattern has been connected with a ...
متن کاملA Hypothesis Concerning a Potential Involvement of Ceramide in Apoptosis and Acantholysis Induced by Pemphigus Autoantibodies
Autoimmune diseases affect more than 50 million Americans, resulting in significant healthcare costs. Most autoimmune diseases occur sporadically; however, endemic pemphigus foliaceus (EPF) is an autoimmune skin disease localized to specific geographic loci. EPF, and the related diseases pemphigus vulgaris (PV) and pemphigus foliaceus (PF), are characterized by skin lesions and autoantibodies t...
